Russell Crowe's Violin

In the 2003 film "Raging Sea: Polar Expedition", actor Russell Crowe studied violin hard for the role. In the movie, Russell Crowe played Captain Jack Aubrey, who is a tender iron man who can play the violin in the novel; The film production team once considered using a stunt double to handle the scene of the captain playing the piano, but it was rejected by Russell Crowe. Film director Peter Weir then arranged for violin teacher Robert Greene, who had extensive experience teaching famous people, to teach Russell Crowe violin. The original violin used was a heavy and black German violin, with no problem with sound, but visually, especially in the dark cabin, it was not outstanding. The film director also felt that even if the captain had a heroic personality, he should prefer more delicate instruments. After consulting with the director, Russell Crowe, who was on set in Rosarito, Mexico, urgently contacted his musician friend in Australia, Richard Tognetti, the music director of an Australian chamber orchestra, to find a better violin. Tognetti is also a violinist and a frequent user of Guarneri del Gesu (borrowed by a mysterious wealthy friend). Guarneri is a big fan, but under the influence of his bad friend, Russell Crowe purchased a Guarneri style violin made by Leandro Bisiach in 1890 with personal funds (the prop team resigned after seeing the price list). Although the violin making time is slightly later than the historical axis in the movie, this is a violin that Captain Jack Aubrey would also love. Russell Crowe said so.

(What a simple and unadorned attitude towards life)

Unfortunately, the good times did not last long. Russell Crowe divorced Danielle Spencer in 2018, and according to the divorce agreement, a large collection of movie props owned by Russell Crowe had to be auctioned off for personal use. The violin is also on the auction list. The Best Actor also sees this through: 'I no longer need them,' "Russell Crowe said in an interview with" 60 Minutes. Emotions can be let go, and so can material life.

In April 2018, the violin was sold at an auction for AUD 164700, far exceeding its estimated value. It is reassuring that the buyer agreed to lend the violin to a young musician, and the first lucky winner was Bridget O'Donnell, a 31 year old newcomer from the Australian Symphony Orchestra.

But don't feel sorry for Russell Crowe, the 59 year old (weight...) Best Actor and new girlfriend Britney Theriot are steadily developing.

A less important detail: Britney Theriot is also 31 years old.
